Interesting Places in Bacolod

There are a lot of interesting places that you should visit while you are in Bacolod City. Most of them are in the city itself, while some are located in the neighboring cities.

Provincial Capitol Building - The seat of the provincial government of Negros Occidental. Built in the 1930’s, it is one of the most impressive in the whole island of Negros, and perhaps in the country, because of its Neo-Roman classic style and architectural design. It also houses the Sugar Museum.Sugar Museum Exhibits objects and machinery that had to do with the development of the sugar industry in the province.

San Sebastian Cathedral - Made up of coral stones and lime quarried from nearby Guimaras Island. It was built in 1876.

Bacolod City Plaza - Site of cultural events and performances.

Fort San Juan - Ruins of the fort, which served as a jail for prisoners during the Spanish era and where Spanish friars were incarcerated after the 1898 revolution.

Santa Clara Chapel - A wood and capiz shell chapel with a unique mural mosaic of the Virgin Mary, made up of 95,000 polished shells.

Chapel of Cartwheel - Made up of old carabao cartwheels and other farm implements.

Rizal Elementary School - The first school established by the Americans in 1901. It has a mini park, constructed to commemorate the centennial year of Jose Rizal’s death.

Bacolod Central Market - Has good quality handicrafts, baskets, and antiques.

Art Association of Bacolod Gallery - Showcases paintings and other works of famous Bacolod artists.

Capitol Park & Lagoon - Park located right in front of the Negros Capitol. Known for its carabao scupltures. Simply known to the BacoleÃ±os as “Lagoon”.
