The Rock

The Rock

Last Saturday, I went to the beatiful island of Corregidor. The island has played a very significant role in shaping the history of our nation. We had our buffet lunch served at the Corregidor Hotel. Very warm and hospitable hotel staff welcomed us with various folk songs.

After the lunch, our guide toured us around the island onboard a tram. The tram looks very similar to the trams being used during the 40′s in the island.

We were then toured to the various ruins in the island like the Mile Long barracks, the old movie house, the officers’ quarters, and the large cannons on the island.

We also went inside the Malinta Tunnel for the Light and Sound Show. It was a very meaningful show which portrayed the fateful years of 1941-1945.

We also went to the various memorials, like the Filipino Heroes Memorial, the Japanese Memorial, Fil-Am Friendship Park, and the Pacific War Memorial.

I have learned so much from this tour. It has taught me the importance of FREEDOM. I have learned to value the sacrifices our forefathers have done for our sake. Let us not forget the heroism, the courage, and valor our forefathers have done. Let us not put to waste the blood and their precious life that they have offered for our country.

Let us not forget the past. Let the lessons we have learned from the Battle of Corregidor be our guiding light towards the attainment of full freedom and independence.
