Kabankalan Sinulog Festival
Legends has it that in during the early times, the Municipality of Ilog, some 90 kilometers south of Bacolod, was invaded by the Moros. There was war, and ultimately this was won by the people of Ilog. Kabankalan was then part of the Municipality of Ilog. Their victory was attributed to the Infant Jesus we all call The Santo Nino.
Thus, as a thanksgiving, people celebrate every 3rd Sunday of January with gaeity. Every Kabankalanons troop to the streets to join the Sinulog street dance. And to be a part of the festivities, one must have his or face painted and chant “Viva Senyor Santo Nino!”
