Featured Aliwan Fiesta Contingent:

Pintados de Passi
Passi City, Province of Iloilo

I’m sure many of you haven’t heard of a festival called Pintados de Passi yet. This unique festival is held every March 13 in Passi City, in the province of Iloilo.

The Pintados de Passi Festival recalls the life of the early settlers in the island of Panay. These men adorned their bodies with tatoo. Thus, these group of people were called the “Pintados” or “the Painted men”.

The Pintados de Passi is no stranger to cross-competing in other festivals. This Passi City-based fiesta has won the 2004 Kasadyahan Festival in Iloilo, 2nd Place winner in the Free Interpretation Category of 2006 Cebu Sinulog Festival, and the grand champion of the 2005 Aliwan Fiesta.

This year’s Pintados de Passi contingent will present a story of sugarcane workers who have been attacked by creatures like aswang, and kapre.

i love creative photography. i did some during college… some landed on the pages of the school paper… i love the colors of aliwan fiesta photo. looking at it makes me yearn for more… makes me sick to the stomach…i miss home so much… i am ilonggo by heart even though im far away from home… is there a way we can order a hard copy of the pictures? or maybe order some hardbound copy of a book that has a compilation of wonderful pictures you’ve taken?

aliwan festival is really a big tribute to the philippine tourism, and i am one of the performers of a participating tribe, kahilwayan……… i felt very amuze and attracted to the different colors of the costumes of other participating tribes…. when we are about to perform in the star city area, i saw the place fully crouwded but i’m confident that we can deliver our piece clearly to the audience and most of those audience are tourist who came a long way just to see this kind of event….. i know that all of the participating tribe especially us does not aim for the price but just to present and promote our own culture to the tourist and let everybody know that philippine is rich even if undergoing a fiscal crisis especially in politics and economics
