Aliwan Fiesta 2006 updates

The Aliwan Fiesta ended with a blast last night, or shall I say early this morningat the Aliw Theater in CCP Complex. It was almost 12midnight when the last contingent finished their performance, almost 1AM when the winners were announced. And here are some of the photos and the list of the winners:

im a delagate of the aliwan festival 06.. pamulinawen festival of laoag city… i saw the performances of d different contingents, dinagyang, pasalamat, pamulinawen, babailan, sinulog, damili, panagbenga, kahilyawan, padang-padang and many more…we are all winners.. but if dats the case.. ibang usapan na yan!!!! god knows d truth!!!!!!

cebu does not deserve na manalo lutong macao talaga!! sa performance pa lng ang layo n a ng deperensya. sa judge pa lng panalo sila but sa mga tao iloilo ang mga nanalo!! go tga iloilo!!!

zaldy… top 5?? as far as im concerned eh sabi ng coordinator namin eh personal choice ng ccp ang iinvytan nila…. the cultural center of the philippines invited our festival (pamulinawen) sa the independence day celeb…im fact eh sa june 9 punta na kami sa manila, kc rehearsals na day sa june 10th for the big day 0n june 12,,, along the invited contingents daw eh, dinagyang, pintados de passi, kahilwayan, pamulinawen and sinulug, pero sbi mo d sila makakasali, sayang naman , dami kong nakilala dun eh… cno ung isa pa kung ganun. halad ba?… kung top 5 pick ng ccp ung pupunta eh tama ung results na nasa amin coz we raked 6th place daw, eh d makakasama ang sinulog kaya we fil in d space i guess.. kxe ang napuntang results samin from the officials results of aliwan eh

Dinagyang Tribu Ilonganon was invited (aside from Isabel Province invitation) in “Kalutan ed Dagupan-Bangus Sa Lansangan” (Bangus Festival) to add more color to the festival last April 30 (a day after the Aliwan Festival).
The street dancing was made more electrifying with the performance of the Dinagyang contingent.
The Dinagyang contingent performed its grand number at the City Plaza where the dignitaries and Zamboanga City delegation shared the tastiest Bangus with the Dagupan City officials, employees and guests.

tandaan mo ang nanalo na sinulog sa aliwan fiesta ay ika 6th place lang sa Sinulog Festival 2006 mismo…imposibleng manalo sila sa ALIWAN FIesta na ang mga contingents ay champion in their own festival.. so try to think it over darling…sa kanilang festival nga hindi sila nanalo…taga camiguin pa ang nag champion…mahiya ka naman…sabagay patronize ur own nga nman..and its true…2 of the judges came from cebu…yes alam ng judges ginagawa nila..at alam nila talaga kng CNO ang papanaluhin.. sa cebu..gudlak next year…
one more thing nga pala guys…nag show down nga pala ang Sinulog at Dinagyang sa Isabela last May 5, 2006…and guess what..a big BOOOOO lang napala nila from the audiences…u can always ask the Sinulog warriors…wla namang pumansin sa kanila doon…in fact nagwawonder pa nga mga taga isabela kng sayaw na ba ginawa nila…poor Sinulog festival.. kng hindi pa sa “DAYA” using the 2 judges from cebu…..hindi pa mananalo.. i thot mga sumasali lang sa ALIWAN are champions in their own festival..bakit kaya napasali ang SInulog doon eh 6th place lng naman sila sa kanilang festival…Camiguin naman nagchampion.. funny… taga ibang lugar kasi mga nanalo sa Sinulog ‘06…kaya wla silang makuhang best performer for aliwan..hindi man nanalo ang DINAGYANG dis year…in our hearts…ILOILO is the BIG CHAMPION….
hoy cindy buang man ka…. bogo gud ka…kahibalo ka mobasa sa thread??…ang pinadala sa aliwan ay sinulog free interpretation grand champion sa 2004 at 2005…they didn’t make it to the top 5 for sinulog 2006 because of “technicalities”….and for your info, the group is not the 6th placer…one more thing, don’t say things that you are not sure about….you are eating your own words my girl…just accept it, the winner of this year’s aliwan festival is a disqualified contingent from sinulog 2006 that defeated other contingents who are champions in their own festival…last thing, we do accept that most winners in sinulog are not from cebu but remember it is not from iloilo who won this year’s sinulog festival….cindy, my friends from passi are great people..ilonggos are great people..i guess you are not one…sorry…
Practice at paglabas pa lang during Aliwan nakita mo na ang mga contingents from Iloilo ay alagang-alaga. Naka-uniporme (pati sandal, scarf at bag), ilang beses pa magbihis para hindi matuyuan ng pawis, may mga food supplements/vitamins, neat and well groom, disiplinado and well organize. They are well supported by Dinagyang Foundation, NGO at LGU. Hope that other place will emulate para hindi naman maging mukhang kawawa.
May nakausap akong taga-mindanao, mga parents pala ang gumastos pa para makasali at makasama ang mga anak nila. Kunti lang support from LGU.

WOW talagang magaling ang mga taga ilo-ilo noh?? Is this true mga taga Lumad?? I wonder what kind of festival/place na mag BOOOO nang mga guest contingent,di ba greatful dapat sila dahil inimbeta ang mga winner nang aliwan?..because this is not a sporting or a lowly event..Imagine a cultural dance or shall we say an offering ritual is being boooed by this isabelan crowd??Ano ba ito mga walang pinag-aralan? You are shouting VIVA PIT SENYOR and instead of claps you will heared this crowd boooing ur performance??..Well if that’s the case the people from that place has a great taste of dancing/artistry and rituals better than the big cities because what i observed the manila and cebu crowd was really amazed of what they saw from Lumad Basakanon..How true is this incident?? Amidst the controversies of the aliwan festival we should learn how to appreciate our fellow filipinos especially if that’s a religious activity..Sinulog is not just a mere dance it is an offering dance to the Lord, its not for the price but for the glory of Santo Nino de Cebu..

Hindi ito contest ha….pero tatlo sa Iloilo contingents ang invited sa Independence Day Celebrations. That means Iloilo festivals are worth watching.

Zaldy…nde kami kagaya nyong mga udong na marunong gumawa ng kwento..wla naman akong pakialam kng ano man kwento mo tungkol sa tribo nyo…nde question d2 kng marunong bumasa ang tao..grade 1 nga marunong na bumasa eh…alam ko na ginagawa tong festivals to ofeer thanks to the Lord…im not questioning that…hindi bat may mga judges in those events..kasi tinitingnan nila ang performance ng mga sumasayaw.. at anong dance steps pinagmamalaki nyo Zaldy??? sayaw pambata? mukhang pinaglumaan na..ay naku lolo zaldy bago ka mag react dyan at gumawa ng sarili mong version…itanong mo kaya sa lahat ng taga isabela kng clappings maririnig mo dun..yun eh kng andoon ka nga.. hindi naman kasalanan kng mag BOO mga tao dun..lalo na kng “feeling magaling” lang naman nagpeperform…the fact still remains na hindi kayo panalo sa sarili nyong festivals kasi hindi kayo marunong sumunod sa mga technicalities ng festivals nyo….

since the 80’s, nakapag tour na ako sa mga places kung saan merong mga festivals. that includes of course ati-atihan, dinagyang, marajao-karajao, lanzones, maskara, pinta flores, and sinulog.
among those i mentioned, maskara and pinta flores are becoming more colorful while lanzones, marajao-karajao and sinulog are getting more exciting every year.
the others lose their identity. they tend to perform jazzy steps while wala namang jazz festival sa bansa, and ang beat nila hindi na iyong original or basic ng kanilang festival kundi patterned from techno or disco music na kulang na lang ay lyrics.
i don’t intend to offend anybody but this is just an honest comment.
we’re talking about philippine festivals, people! LET’S BE REAL!

We were there during the aliwan festival this year and were awed by the great performances of the different festivals in the philippines. The work and preparations behind every group is clearly shown in their bests. We were surprised though that Sinulog of Cebu won…
We think the Dinagyang of Iloilo won by a good margin. The festive movements and choreography is superb in the Dinagyang group. (I’m sorry Sinulog group..)

I agree with the observations of Walter during the Aliwan Fiesta. I was there too, and I can say, performance- and choreography-wise malayong di hamak ang Dinagyang kesa Sinulog. Their (Dinagyang contingent) movements were precised and the energy level is superb. That’s why we were surprised why Sinulog won! (sorry Sinulog group). I’ve been watching Aliwan Fiesta since 2003 and the Dinagyang Festival never failed me in my expectations.
Anyway, the judges have spoken and the Ilonggo group have humbly accepted their defeat as what I’ve read in the previous posts. Let’s leave it that way and let’s move on.
Also, I would like to congratulate the other festivals who did their best in entertaining the spectators. Most especially noted were the Ilonggo festivals (Pintados de Passi, Babaylan, Tultugan and Kahilwayan festivals). Makikita mo talaga ang overwhelming response ng audience after their presentation. It left the audience in awe.
Truly Aliwan Fiesta amazes me. More power. See you next year.

We were on a vacation (our group of 10) in Manila last April and we chanced upon Aliwan Fiesta at that time. We positioned ourselves at the Quirino grandstand to catch a glimpse of the different festivals participating.
Of the 27 contingents who participated, we were really amazed and mesmerized at how the Dinagyang Festival contingent performed. They moved in unison, danced with grace and composure. The choreography was superb. Their costumes were beautifully done while their props were marvelous. And this group was very disciplined.
And we concluded that they should be on top. However, to our dismay, they didn’t get the top plum. Anyway that’s the judges decision.
To us, the performance of the Dinagyang Festival group is an example of how a Philippine fiesta is made, conducted and perfected. We hope the other festivals of the country can emulate the Dinagyang Festival.
Furthermore, we also noticed that the festivals of Region 6 (Babaylan, Pintados, Tultugan and Kahilwayan Festivals) were outstanding - from conceptualization, to the production, up to the delivery of their respective performances. Kudos too to the intelligent and talented choreographers who made all of these possible. Truly, these tribes really knows the very essence of “ALIWAN”.
CONGRATULATIONS to the winners and to the other festivals who did their best.
We were hoping to witness the Dinagyang Festival 2007 in Iloilo and be back again to the grandest fiesta in the Philippines - the Aliwan Fiesta.

To all the people!!!
I am not from cebu.i’ve watched sinulog every year, and i found out that lumad basakanon is a unique group. they had a superb performance every sinulog.Sad to say, sinulog 2006 was a bad year for lumad basakanon because they were given a 20 points deduction from their average score, because of certain technicalities. If they were not deducted of 20 points, they would came out as the grand champions in the Sinulog Free Interpretation Category and that would put them as Grand Slam.Anyhow, as to the result of the Aliwan Festival, we have to accept the decisions and the verdict of the judges.There are really people who can not accept defeat.Lets be professional enough in dealing and in accepting defeat.You know what, In joining a contest, it is not just by winning by its about having a good time.There should always be a winner and a loser.We have to accept the fact that others lost in the contest and others has to win.Why is it that other people, when they post their comments, they have to show their unprofessionalism and for not being cultured. If that would be your behaviour, you are just showing that parents had a poor up bringing of their childrens. Dont tell me that your parents raised you that way.I would say that all the contingents that joined that 2006 ALIWAN FESTIVAL were all great with superb performances, but as what i have said, it wa a contest that would have winners.Probably, the judges if not all, did not like the performances of other groups, that’s why they gave poor ratings to some. Lets unite for a better Philippines and for a better Fetivals in the future. We are not going to show our ignorance and foolishness to the world. Lets be human enough,guided with a strong sense of profissionalism.

I really like the performance of the Dinagyang festival during the Aliwan fiesta. I was glued to their performance from the start to finish. They moved in unison with a festive choreography. Overall production was perfected. They deserve to the champion.

Dinagyang of Iloilo’s performance is already so mediocre coz only stand and do movements, lie on the floor, move their hands, heads, feet, stand up, move to another place and do another move. SO MEDIOCRE.
SINULOG on the other hand have grace on their movement, precision, and applausability.
YOU havent seen enough of the SINULOG CONTINGENTS who also come from MINDANAO like SURIGAO CITY, TANGUB CITY, CAMIGUIN, ILIGAN CITY, AGUSAN DEL NORTE, GINGOOG CITY, and the others. HOW MUCH MORE IF THESE FESTIVALS ARE REPRESENTING REGION 10 and CARAGA REGION?

Let me clarify the side of Dinagyang Festival…as all you know that Iloilo Contigents specially Dinagyang participated the Aliwan festival eversince it was started. Can you please check the records of Aliwan Festival results. Dinagyang contingents were always at the top three post if not the champion, other festivals are yet to prove their consistency to be on the top post.
If you are saying that Dinagyang is a mediocre…I would disagree, since you are also not an expert to say it. No less than the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has tagged Dinagyang as the “Festival of Excellent Folk Choreography.” Alamin mo kung ano ang mandates ng NCCA para malaman mo ang sinasabi mo.

On October 27, 2006 there will be a Parade of Festivals in Iloilo City.
This is one of the activities lined up for this year’s celebration of Western Visayas Tourism Assembly which will start on October 23 to 29.
From Iloilo City are the world famous Dinagyang Festival and Paraw Regatta; Pintados de Pasi of Passi City; Carabao-Carroza Festival of Pavia; Pandayan Festival of Badiangan; Tinu-om Festival of Cabatuan; Binanog Festival of Lambunao; Pakuyang sa Tangyan of Igbaras, Tultugan Festival of Maasin; Kahilwayan Festival of Sta. Barbara and Cry of Jelicuon Festival of New Lucena.
Also joining are the Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Festival of Kalibo, Bariw Festival of Nabas and Ati-Atihan Festival of Ibajay, all in the province of Aklan. The province of Antique will be represented by the Binirayan Festival, the Pahinis Festival of Lauan and the Tugbong Festival of Pandan.
Negros Occidental will have the famous Masskara Festival of Bacolod City and the Babaylan Festival of Bago City. Sinadya sa Halaran will represent the province of Capiz while Manggahan Festival will do the same for the province of Guimaras.
This will not be a competition among participating festivals.
