Meet JL of Lumad Basakanon

He’s cute. He’s adorable. And he’s very talented. At a young age of seven, Jercom Lemon Beck has already wowed a lot of people of his dancing prowess. JL, as Cebuanos fondly call him, has been joining the group Lumad Basakanon of Cebu’s Sinulog Festival since 2004.
When I first learned that the Lumad Basakanon will be representing the Sinulog Festival, the first thing that came into my mind was to look for JL, and have a chat with him. And it indeed happened last April 29, 2006. When the Lumad Basakanon arrived at the Quirino Grandstand, I wasted no time in looking for JL. Some dancers were even surprsed that I know this wonder boy, and that I was also speaking their dialect! (Cebuano)
The wonder kid of Cebu
JL, just like any typical kid is playful and very adoring except that he has an extraordinary interest for dancing. A bit hesitant to talk to strangers, like me. But when i asked him to pose for a picture, he just gave me a smile.

So when their group performed at the last judging area (CCP Complex), the crowd cheered for him. He looks very serious in delivering his dance rituals for the Santo Niño.

I watched the Aliwan Fiesta and I was impressed by ALL the groups!
I think to have such talent in one country is truly unique!

nga pala, may nagsabi sakin na 1st place sa aliwan last year yung HALAD ng NorthCot.. Hahaha! kawawa sila ngayon.. :-0
