Dressed up jeepneys
Posted on May 8, 2006
When the Department of Tourism dressed up 10 cabs in London, featuring the top tourist destinations in London, Oohhs and Aaahs were heard. A lot of British nationals were surprised to see that our country has a lot to offer like, the white sand beaches of Boracay, and the majestic Chocolate Hills of Bohol.
Last month, the DOT has lauched another initiative, this time in Australia. The Tourism Department has palced large billboard in Australia’s most busiest areas. Australians, too, were amazed at the beauty of the Phillipines. Not a lot of them knew that there is a paradse in this side of the planet.
Then just today, the initiative has gone local. This time to market the tourist destinations among the Filipinos.
And how they did it? wrapped the jeepneys in very colorful stickers designed with tha various tourist destinations.
As I was on my way to the office tonight at about 8PM, I have already seen one jeepney sporting this new look. this initiative was made possible through the cooperation of the Department of tourism and the MMDA. This has started with the Makati-based jeepneys, and will soon be expanded to other routes as well.
Good job DOT and MMDA!!!

definitely a great move from Sec. Durano! he’s on the right direction. relative to the australia marketing, i read nga from a newspaper, a month or two months ago, that our philippine tourism office there had to print out additional brochures following the placement of billboards showing our beautiful beaches - a sure sign that those beach-loving aussies got interested!
