World’s third largest mall now open

Posted by on May 22, 2006

The country’s largest mall, Asia’s second largest, and the world third has finally opened, after it has been dleayed for several months.

SM Mall of Asia
The humongous globe rotunda of SM Mall of Asia

Business tycoon Henry Sy together with no less the the Philippine President Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cut the SM Mall of Asia’s ceremonial ribbon last Saturday.

Yesterday, Sunday May 21st, my sister and I decided to go to the new gigantic mall and see what’s in there. Hudreds, (or shall i say Thousands?)of people were there. Mostly doing nothing, just plain usiseros. Crowd ranges from Class A to D.

The is indeed a eclectic blend of shops from the ultra high-end stores down to the pang-masa.

The mall is so huge that we even have difficulty in finding the location where we parked our car.

A lot of interesting stores, and innovations are in place. Checking out the mall directory, I discovered that the Ilonggo’s old time favorite Ted’s Original La Paz Batchoy has a branch here. I belive this is there first branch in the Metro Manila. Their super special Batchoy is a must-try!

Another interesting foodstop to check out is Krispy Kreme. This mother-of-all-donuts is the inspiration behind Gonuts Donuts. People from the States would often tell me the their donuts are really-to-die for. Oh.. we’ll see.

Another thing that I really wanted to try is the San Miguel Coca Cola IMAX Theater. The 8-storey screen is one of the world’s largest, if not the largest.

Another feature of the mall is the Olympic Sized-Skating rink.

The mall is just so huge that I wasn’t able to walk the entire mall space.

hi eric! i’m actually still trying to psyche myself into going to Mall of Asia ever since it was reported that minor quakes within the building (obviously due to its size) have caused some portions of the structure to collapse – thus the delay of its opening.

but ooooh, ted’s lapaz batchoy. i wouldn’t miss that…in fact, i just came back from bacolod and i made sure i would have my fill at their robinson’s mandalagan branch before going back to manila.

vina, yup.. i also heard news about the mall’s floor collapsing, thus delaying its opening.. and i an attest to that.. the floor on the second level near the foodcour and escalator actually vibrates.

nakakatakot.. i was there standing, feeling ko it will just collapse anytime from now.

=( sana mr. henry sy do do something about it…
