Baluarte San Gabriel

In my previoius post, I mentioned that part of my Intramuros tour was a visit to the ruins Baluarte San Diego.

I have been to Intramuros for several times, but I must admit, this is my first time to be at the Baluarte. I was so amazed at its charm and beauty. This round-shaped structure has been a witness to Manila’s glorious past.
Baluarte San Diego was built in the year 1500′s and is one of the oldest fortifications in the Walled City. This grand structure faces right directly the Manila Bay, thus, if this has been Intramuros’ first line of defense.
Unfortunetely, Baluarte San Diego was badly hit during the Battle of Manila in 1945. Restoration was began in 1979 and completed in 1992.

Hello! First off, thanks for visiting my site! I must say you have a rather interesting one here! And I love this picture. I’ve been to Intramuros but I never got to see this part of it. One of these days I should see it for myself. =)
My last visit to intramuros was about 2 years ago. And it didn’t really leave me a good impression… I hope it’s well-maintained now though. Based on your posts, seems like they’re improving the place. that’s great.
