SM Baguio: The coolest thing to hit the Cordilleras

Posted on August 9, 2006

I when first saw this building, on my way to the Baguio City Cathedral, I thought it was a Convention Center. the wall is painted white, with its unique tent-like roof. Later I realized that it wasn’t a convention center. It was a shopping mall perched on top of the mountains!

SM Baguio is one of the very few SM branches with remarkable architectural deisgn. The mall purposely did not install any airconditioning units. Who needs an AC in a city with a 20 degrees Celsius temprerature?

On the western side of the mall is a view deck. On a fogless day, one can get an excellent view of the cordillera University, Burnham Park, Session Road, and Gov. Pack Road. There are also installed binoculars for you to get a close up view of the city scape.

SM Baguio houses several top of the line boutiques restaurants and cafes. The mall has now been the latest hangout of the Baguio people.

it was very very cold when i went there. nung huli kong balik, b4 i moved to vigan, its zero visibility and burnham, session and pack road as well as the cordillera univ can no longer be seen. fog covered lahat. to think na nasa tapat lang ng view deck ang cordillera univ

    cool?
leveling of a mountain to build a mall ain’t cool. I don’t know also if they have the design fixed for when the typhoons came a calling in baguio it also rained inside the mall…

personally, i really think Baguio is losing it’s allure due to uncontrollable development. Ask people who saw and breathed baguio years ago. I don’t have to enumerate the reasons why

    that’s only me

    :)

on the one hand, you can say sm is good for the economy. on the other hand, some say SM is ugly, an insult to good taste. i’ve been to sm baguio but i’m not much of a shopper so i don’t see what the big deal is. i’d rather be in many places other than a shopping mall, but that’s me. ;)

I honestly think, that after moving here one year ago and since im a teenager who’s lived in different countries, not to brag. I just think that it’s a wonderful mall to be in and that it’s clean and beautiful the way it’s built open air, but the service and the management is just awful. Especially in the supermarket since it’s the only one I can assume where it’s better than the rest. But I personally think it gets boring and the attitudes of the workers are horrible, but that’s the Philippines eh?
