Meguyaya Festival

When I first saw them, they immediately held me breathless. Whoa. The colors are so vibrant. Imagine the flaming colors of fuschia, orange, red blue, yellow green. Costumes decked with laces, sequins, and mirrors.

They were one of the most colorful contingent in the 2006 Aliwan Fiesta. These young kids have sailed for several days from the Province of Maguinanao in Mindanao. they may not have won a prize, but they have showcased tousa the unique culture of the Teduray tribe of Maguindanao.

The Meguyaya Festival is a celebration of thanksgiving during the cold month of December by the Teduray tribe, the most dominant cultural group of Upi, Maguindanao. The quiet town of Upi is also known as the summer capitalof Maguindanao.
