Masskara Festival Opens, foreign dignitaries expected to arrive

The much awaited Masskara Festival season has finally opened!

Last October 1, Bacolod City, Philippines Honorable Mayr Evelio “Bing” Leonardia declared the Masskara Festival open. The event was held at the Bacolod City Public Plaza and at the SM Village at the Reclamation Area. Joining Leonardia are the members of the Bacolod City local government as well as the members of the expatriate community in Bacolod headed by the Dutch national John Bertrand.

Live band entertainment are showcased nightly at the City Plaza and at the SM Village.

As of this writing, there are already 25 barangays who have signified to join the streetdance competition. These are the barangays: 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 32, 37, and 38. Also joining the competition are baranggays Alijis, Granada, Handumanan, Felisa, Punta Taytay and Singcang Airport.

In othe open category, Tagbilaran City, Mandaue City and Tanjay Oriental Negros has also signified their interest in joining the competition.

The winners of the elementary, high school category and the top 10 winners winners of the barangay category will be qualified to join the open category on the last day of the streetdance competition. The Masskara Festival 2006 streetdance competition will be held from October 20-22, 2006.

Also expected to grace this grand festivities are the Ambassadors of South Africa, France and Belgium.
