Higantes Escapade
Posted on November 24, 2006
Every November 23, the people of Angono, Rizal celebrates one of the country’s most unique fiesta: The Higantes Festival. This festival is celebrated on the fest day of San Clemente, the patron saint of the town of Angono. Once the procession starts, people from all walks of life join the revelry by splashing buckets of water to the procession-goers as well as to the onlookers. Giant effigies made of papier mache are also paraded to the streets.

What made it more unique is that the many men, joining the parade, are dressed with ladies’ garments. Some wore dusters, while some wore skirts.

Young kids also join the parade dancing to the non-stop chanting of Boom Tarat Tarat.

Truly this fiesta embodies the true spirit of a Filipino: fun-loving and know well how to celebrate life to the fullest.
