The Giant Stars of Pampanga

Posted on November 26, 2006

When we say, Pampanga , what comes into your mind?

Sisig? the ancestral mansions? The Kamaru? The Duty Free shops? But there’s one industry that we can say that for many years now, it has been dominated by the Kapampangans.

That’s the lantern or the parol -making industry.

Undoubtedly, the country’s best lanterns all come from this province. Lanterns of various sizes, shape, color and materials. Some are made of green, red, and yellow. Quite a number of them are mde of wax paper, crepe paper, or Japanese paper. Some are made of the expensive Capiz shells.

And to let everybody know that the Kapampangans are the best in this industry, the people of San Fernando, Pampanga will be holding its annual Ligligan Parul or the Giant Lantern Festival this coming December 16 at the SM San Fernando Ampitheater.

A FORMER apartment-neighbor of mine, Winston. Although deny siya nang deny na Kapampangan siya (Ipinanganak lang ako duon! Iyun lang!).

I miss you. Let’s see a movie together or something. Talk about our inexistent love lives.
