Dinagyang Festival

See how ironic it is. Brown-skinned men painted themselves in black and wore white costumes.

These is a typical scene during the annual Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City, Philippines. Dinagyang is a festival of thanksgiving to the holy Infant Jesus, popularly known as Santo Niño. The festival is held every fourth Sunday of January. Various events are lined up all throughout the week culminating in the street dance where men paint themselves in black and dance to the hypnotic beat of the drums. Chants of Hala Bira! and Viva Señor Santo Niño!can be heard throughout the city.
