Zamboanga City, known by its monicker as the Orgullo de Mindanao or the Pride of Mindanao, remains largely as a Roman Catholic city. The city is a melting pot of several ethnic groups, like the Badjao, Takan, Tausug, Samal, and the Muslim community.

Zamboanga is also a gateway to other places like Sulu, Tawi-tawi, and Sandakan, Malaysia.
