New surprises for Sinulog 2007

The Cebu Sinulog Foundation has recently unveiled new surprises for the upcoming Cebu Sinulog Festival.
Next month’s Sinulog Festival route will be much longer so that more people will get the chance to witness the Philippines’ grandest festival. From the 4.3 kilometer-carousel route this year, the 2007 edition will be extened up to 4.7 kilometers.
The Sinulog Foundation has also bared that a new set of prize will be awarded. The crowd can now vote for their favorite performing group for the “Texters’ Choice” Award.
As of this writing, a number of out of town contingents have already signified their intention to join the Sinulog Festival Grand Parade on January 21, 2007. Among them are the Sinulog Based Category 2006 Champion Tribu Sinanduloy of Tangub City, the Free Interpretation Category 2006 Champion from the province of Camiguin. The Wow Philippines Festival Champion Yagyag Festival of Sibulan Negros Oriental, and the Pintaflores Festival of San Carlos City. Also expected to join in the next month’s festivities are the perennial winners South Western University and the Lumad Basakanon of Basak, Barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City.
Sinulog Festival is an annual celebration of thanksgiving to the Infant Jesus commonly referred to as the Santo Niño. Sinulog is a prayer dance ritual of moving 3 steps forward and 2 stpes backward, following the rush of the river, or sulog in the Cebuano dialect.
