Asean Summit Gala Presentation
Posted by on January 16, 2007
Last Sunday, I was able to watch live on television, the the ASEAN Summit Gala Presentation at the Shangri-la Mactan Hotel the province of Cebu.
The ASEAN leaders, led by Philippines’ Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo we treated to an extravaganza one would surely never forget. Cebu City’s pride, the Lumad Basakanon of the famed Sinulog Festival opened the show with their prayer dance ritual for the Santo Niño.
Another highlight of the Gala was the rendition of the song Anak by Freddie Aguilar, which was also sung in three other languages. I guess the first was in Bahasa, second was in Japanese, I was unable to decipher the third language.
Leah Salonga was also present to sing songs from Miss Saigon and Les Miserbles.
The Bayanihan Dance Company also gave the ASEAN leaders a peek into our dances by performing numbers like subli, sayaw sa bangko, maglalatik, and singkil.
Despite earlier reports that 100 performers were downed due to food poisoning, the show still continued, as if nothing has happened.
Kudos to all the organizers for putting up a great show!
