From the Queen City to the Queen’s City
Posted by on January 29, 2007
Last January 21,I flew to Cebu City, known as the Quen City of the South for the annual celebration of the Sinulog Festival. I got overwhelmed by the number of tourists visiting Cebu during the festivities. What’s even more overwhelming is the number of groups competing at the Sinulog. There are fifty competing groups coming from all over Cebu province and from neighborng provinces. The grand parade started at9 in the morning and ended at 7 in the evening. It was very very tiring, but still, I enjoyed every moment of it.

From Cebu, I travelled by bus going to Bacolod City for a brief stopover.
January 27, I went to Silay City. This charming city, 15 kilometers north of Bacolod is known for its turn-of-thecentury houses and mansions. I also visited the Balay Negrense, an old house of the Gaston family turned into a museum. A visit to Silay will never be complete without passing by the San Diego Pro-Cathedral. The only Pro-Cathedral in the Philippines.
From Silay, I went straight to Bacolod pier fora trip to Iloilo. Yesterday, January 28 Iloilo City celebrated its annual Dinagyang Festival in honor of the Santo Niño. As expected, thousands trooped to the Queen’s City for this big event. Dinagyang is the only festival in the world recognized by the United Nations in their Milleniun Development Goals (MGD) advocay campaign.

Thousands drove to Iloilo City for the Dinagyang Festival. Spotted me on the pic?
