Get ready as the country’s biggest, and most colorful festivals will once again converge in Manila for the annual Aliwan Fiesta 2007!
L-R: Meguyaya Festival of Maguindanao; Cebu City Sinulog; Placer Masbate’s Himag-Ulaw Festival; GenSan’s Kalilangan Festival
The event is slated April 26-28, 2007. The streetdance competition will start at the Quirino Grandstand and will end at the Aliw Theater atthe CCP Complex.
At stake is P1 Million Pesos and the bragging rights as the “Philippines’ Best Festival.”
Expected to join this year’s edition is the Lumad Basakanon of Cebu City’s Sinulog Festival and the Tribu Ilonganon of Iloilo City’s Dinagyang Festival. The former won the 2006 editions grand title while the latter won the 1st runner up trophy.

sa sayaw, concept originality,figures originality,design of materials originality…walang pirated…
kaya kahit ulitin pa ng lumad ang pag-akyat sa basket,pag-ulit ng figures “daw”….its part of their trademark….the first ever….lumad is purely has a trademark…..originality!!!!!

The Pintados de Pasi Festival, in Passi City, central of Iloilo province, is perhaps one of the best known and established festivals of the Visayan region that have evolved through the years. It has played a big part in the lives of most Passinhons. It is the most popular spectator cultural event and the most popular for the community that has a large following. Theatrical-like street dancing performances are a celebrated part of the Pintados festivity that is characterized by heavy and aggressive body movements. Here, performers adorned in traditional body tattoo with elaborate geometrical designs in their body, including their arms, legs and torso dramatizes stories in which the towns’ ancestral beings laid down every feature of the area, especially, their way of life.
Characterized by heavy and aggressive body movements, the dances seem to have developed independent of any external influences, as in the combat dances, folk plays, ritual actions, or character types. Historical or cultural sources are essential materials in sustaining a festival such as theirs. The festivity changed over the years, though its cultural presentation remained popular up to this day, and has resurrected and form part in a celebration that reflected function and transition. It also represented a major change in style and subject matter.

TANDAAN niyo ang mga judges hindi taga cebu galing sila sa CCP at NCCA at sa ibang cultural arts organization, mga bihasa sila sa performing arts, sila pa rin dati ang mga judges alam nila kung paulit-ulit ang performance ng mga contingent hindi niyo sila madaya.
ang hanap ng mga judges BAGONG CONCEPT at hindi RECYCLED tulad sa inyo.
Baka hindi niyo pa alam ang labanan sa national competition, hindi yan tulad sa sinulog na ang mga judges taga cebu din na kahit sampung taon niyo ulit-ulitin ang performance pwede!. ibang level na ‘to mga bay! wala tayo sa cebu at hindi lang sinulog at dinagyang ang kasali, marami!.
i saw gameplan last night they feature Ilo-ilo’s dinagyang festival..I just
observe that during the announcement of the winners. the champion tribe and their supporters are chanting ALIWAN ALIWAN ALIWAN..Im just wondering how come the popularity of aliwan did not reach us here in cebu.Maybe if Lumad will bring the trophy again for cebu this year, then this festival will now become a big deal to the cebuanos…2 years in a row, not bad for a group who only join twice..I just hope that there will be a live TV coverage for aliwan this time.

As far as I know Dinagyang did not joined any WOW Philippine competitions. They are only guest performer. Masscara Festival joined the contest representing the Region VI (Western Visayas). It was the decision of WV DOT 6 director Trompeta to give way to the other festivals of the region.
Ang dinagyang at ang ibang contingent, kahit talo sali pa rin, kahit umabot pa sa year 2050 ang aliwan. ewan ko lang sa sinulog pag natalo ngayon, im sure hindi na sila sasali next year. pride di ba? hindi tumatanggap ng pagkatalo. kaya last year lang sumali ang sinulog dahilan? walang budget. cebu pa walang budget? may pera ayaw lang matalo!.
ganyan din nangyari nung may MBA game pa, pag talo ang cebu pinagbabantaan ang mga player ng ibang team. pinagbabato pa pati ang bus at hotel ng mga kalaban. kailan nangyari to? holy week ng 1999 may laro ang cebu kontra negros sa cebu coliseum at hindi lang isang beses nangyari ang ganito(out topic reaction ko lang para malaman niyo)
magalit na kayo yan naman totoo di ba? kayo nag-umpisa ng mga negative comment di ba? may salita pa kayong – hambog, talunan, lahat ng mga forumer dito pinopromote ang kanilang mga festival tapos kayo kung ano-ano. kaya tuloy naungkat ang pagka-arogante niyo. promote niyo na lang ang sa inyo!

ok at least alam ko na. don’t get me wrong sa comment ko ha! i don’t mean anything. yung sakin mapaliwanag lang at yun na. at medyo mali din pala mga words na sinulat ko. ngayon ko lang nabasa uli. ayaw ko kasi makipag away dahil sa festival at sa point of view ng iba dito na baluktot.
maganda naman lahat ng festival eh. kahit saang sulok ng pinas basta festival nag enjoy panoorin.

This site and articles were created to promote tourism around the Philipines not to put down anyone. Sana alam din ito ng iba. Tulungan lang tayo para maipakita natin that we have alot of beautiful festivals around the country. Kung meron man kayong pinapanigan na mga festivals, it’s ok as long na hindi nyo nilalait ang ibang festivals or ibang lugar.
I also admit it that I came from western visayas region and I’m promoting our festivals specially the Dinagyang. I don’t give any negative comments on the other festivals.

the reason y the last few years cebu city didnt join aliwan as far as the information that is reached to me is….
the city mayor is after the welfare of the contingent…mga kids kasi..so simply means..may karaykaray pang guardian or chaperon..then lalaki ang budget… and few of the reason naman why aliwan is existing ay dahil nagpropromote din ito each festivals di ba???so instead the allocated budget for the contingent ay dinadivert nalng sa promotions for cebu city…like sa tourist spot pinaganda more and preserving the cultural heritage spots of cebu…in which tourist will also came to see again and again…

honestly, pag nasa luzon area tayo, pare pareho lang ang tawag satin. BISAYA! I don’t care that much how they call us, but it depends how they deliver it. sometimes it makes me feel so negative because they think all the probinsyano are poor and bobo. But lots of probinsyano especially from visayas proved them wrong. We have our own skills, talents and way to uplift our own lifes in every field we are in to…

hey guys… alam nyo ba lahat ng festival sa visayas area mga sikat? hindi ito pag yayabang ha. ang Sinulog Festival ng Cebu dinadagsa ng mga tourist local man o foriegn, ang Masskara Festival ng Bacolod nakapag compete sa ibang bansa kahit talunan sa national competition. Ang Dinagyang Festival ng Iloilo marami naring awards at acknowledgement na natanggap. Ang Ati-Atihan Festival ang pinaka matagal na festival sa boung bansa. So ano pa ang pag aawayan dito? lahat ng festival na to, sikat sa iba’t ibang aspeto. Pati narin sa ibang fiesta na nag sisimula pa lang, darating din ang panahon nila para maki sabayan. Malay natin baka darating ang panahon kilalanin na ang Pilipinas bilang Festival Country.

i hope this comming aliwan, will be more sports minded ang mga entry. try to accept defeat and improve next time around, winning is not important especially having the top spot. the people around us will decide and accept us even if we end up as a loser. guys lets bear this in our mind, we are the best even if we prove it ot the whole world. but still we experience ups and down in our life and we are not perfect…

may mga favorites ako, but still gusto ko pa rin lahat ng festivals because each and every one of them is unique. iba ang sinulog sa dinagyang, iba ang bonok bonok sa masskara, iba ang pamulinawen sa sarakiki hadang. parehong magaganda lahat. di ba?

The Dinagyang, specially the Tribu Ilonganon introduce another new style of choreography, dressing up while performing infront of the audience. You will see it on this year Aliwan Fiesta.
Eric, do you have any knowledge, if Maasin, Iloilo Tribu Tultugan will still join the Aliwan Fiesta since they were also participant in Dinagyang Kasadyahan Contest which Tribu Kahilwayan were declared as Champion.
Yesterday was the Pintados de Pasi Festival, we don’t have yet any news about them to join the Aliwan Fiesta this year.

im from pintados de pasi tribe noh! hindi kmi sasali sa taong ito dahil we are focusing our time sa aming performing arts company dito sa amin. Pero sa akin makukuha ng iloilo dinagyang ang corona ng kampyonato dahil iba ang kanilang dating. May mga bagong approach sa choreography at saka merong bagong gimick clang ipapakita na hindi pa nakikita sa aliwan feista. ewan ko lang sa tribu kahilwayan kasi ang kanilang choreographer ay wala na sa kanila. At the same time ang kanilang approach ay walang pinagbago……

sayang at di kayo makasali. everybody are expecting the Pintados de Pasi, who were the champion last 2005. Ang galing nyo and Ilonggos are proud of this festival.
Dinagyang Festival always have new innovations every year.
Nakita ko rin ang performance ng Tribu Kahilwayan meron rin silang mga bagong ipapakita sa kanilang performance.
Sayang nabawasan ang mga contingents ng WV.
Let’s hope that Ilonggos will shine again sa Aliwan Festival.
