Magellan Marker
Posted on February 16, 2007
One of the tourist spots in the island of Mactan, province of Cebu is the marker in memory of the Portuguese Explorer Ferdinand Magellan. According to historians, Magellan was slain by a local chieftain named Lapu-Lapu just a few meters away from this multi-layered obelisk.
The monument is a stone’s throw away from the Lapu-Lapu monument. The people of Mactan re-enacts the historic battle between these two leaders during the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan Festival which is also held in this site.
