Located 40 kilometers away from the city Iloilo is the chuch of Santo Tomas de Villanueva in the town of Miag-ao.
This majestic structure was built in 1786 by the Spanish Agustinian friars. During its early history, thesimbahan also serverd as a fortress. The highlight of the bas relief facade of this baroque church is a large coconut tree located right on top of the structure.

Standing mightily on each side of the church are the two belfries which also served as a watchtower during the wartime era.

Iloilo was the second place i’ve been to outside of Luzon island. I made it a point to attend mass at Miag ao Church even if it was the last mass. Muntik pa kaming maligaw ng asawa ko. Malayo pala from Iloilo city.
