Talaba, anyone?

talaba

When I visit the Visayan islands, I always make sure to include talaba in my list of foods that should never be missed. Talaba is the local term of oysters. The best oysters in the Visayas can be found in Roxas City and Iloilo City in Panay island, as well as in the town of Hinigaran in Negros Occidental.

A small bowl with freshly boiled oysters are usually pegged at 30 pesos in Iloilo as well as in Bacolod City. But prices seem to skyrocket to as much as 150 pesos for every small bowl here in Metro Manila. Talaba stalls line the beaches of Villa, Iloilo seling this prized commodity. An ordinary foodstuff for many Ilonggos, but is considered as a food for the god here in Metro Manila.
