San Jose Church

The parish of San Jose in Iloilo City, houses the replica of the Santo Niño that was brought from Cebu City. When this image was brought to Iloilo, the Ilonggo people started to celebrate a festivity somewhat similiar to the Ati-atihan festival of Kalibo. People were dancing around the churchyard to the non-stop beating of the drums. This celebration later on evolved and now popularly known as the Dinagyang Festival. This fiesta is held every 4th Sunday of January as a thanksgiving to the Santo Niño, and as a commemoration of the arrivial of the image of the Holy Infant from Cebu
