tea eggs

One of the weirdest foods that I have ever tasted in Binondo is the tea egg. Tea Egg is actually a hard boiled chicken egg, that is boiled again in a concoction of tea and spices. The egg may taste a bit odd at first, but later on, you will get savor the unique taste of the egg.

If the pan de sal and galunggong serves as the econominc indicator in the Philippines. The tea eggs, are also used as a price index in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mainland China. These hard boiled delight is usually boiled in tea leaves, with salt, pepper, soy sauce sugar and a whole lot more of spices. One of the best tasting tea eggs in Binondo can be found in Shin Ton Yon eatery.

Tea eggs! Wee! Grandma always makes them during the summer time whenever we come to visit her in Laguna. And yes, the Shin Ton Yon eatery’s tea eggs are the best in Binondo. I miss that place.
