Liliw, Laguna
Posted on April 20, 2007
One of the most captivating churches of Laguna is the parish of St. John the Baptist (San Juan Bautista) in the town of Liliw, Laguna. Liliw is my 6th church in this year’s visita iglesia. The church was builtmore than a century ago using red bricks. The bricks used are somewhat similiar to the ones used in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
Aside form is grand church in Baroque archtectural design, Liliw is also known for its sandals and slippers industry. Sandal stores lined up the streets next to the church. Because of this thriving local industry, the municipal government of Liliw has initiated the “Tsinelas Festival” every April to further promote the locally-made footwear and to uplift the image of the town of Liliw as well.
