Snake for Lunch, anyone?
Posted on May 24, 2007
When we had ourn Laguna Loop Tour last week, we dropped by the town of Kalayaan in Laguna, Philippines for a one of a kind hearty lunch. We had our meals at the famed Exotik Restaurant.
True to its name, the restaurant’s specialties are exotic foods. I could say that this is not the for the faint-hearted. The restaurant covered in lush green trees and plants serves frogs, snakes, iguanas and a whole lot more, cooked the way you want it. you can have them fried, or sizzling, or sinigang (cooked in sour broth).
For the not-so-adventurous type, there are also regular Filipino dishes served. For our lunch we ordered Ox tripe Karekare, (meat cooked in peanut butter sauce), Crispy Pata, and a serve of sizzling sawa (snake).
At first I was a bit hesitant to try the sizzling snake. I just can’t imagine eating the relatives of the Burmese and Reticulated python I handled when I was doing volunteer work a few years ago. But yeah, the smell is so good. So I finally tried the sizzling sawa, and it tasted like fish.
The restaurant also has a pasalubong shop where you buy handicrafts for friends and loved ones.
