A day at the Salcedo Market
Posted on June 9, 2007
This is just a follow up to my previous post. Last Saturday I have to wake up very early in the morning. I really forced my body to be up by 7AM to get the best from the market. The Salcedo Saturday market is a whole new expereince for me.
Although, I do go to wet markets from time to time, Salcedo Saturday Market is different. Salcedo is a one-stop-shop kind of market. There are flowers, handicrafts, breads, spices, cooked foods, and some rare finds all under one roof.
Each and every stalls have their own style in marketing the products. Some would give free tasting! Who doesn’t want a free tasting anywany? Some would give you their business cards so that you can order from them even if it’s not Saturday. Another stall that caught my fancy: they decorated there area with a sombrero, loudly announcing their pancit habhab from Lucban, Quezon.
After making rounds at the carpark several times, I opted to buy a large (I mean L A R G E!) rellenong bangus (or stuffed milkfish). It was so big that, I have to divide it in half, one is for our breakfast while the other half, I brought it in the office. The price? 175 pesos. Not bad for a deliciously made relleno.
I also bought a dozen of Longganisang Vigan (Sausages from Vigan) for 100 Pesos. I must say that, it was delicious and authentic. I love its flavor! I also bought 1 kilogram of ripe mangoes coming from Zambales. It’s so sweet. Not even a hint of asim can be tasted on its flesh. It’s not very yellow, but its so sweet already. A kilo of mangoes cost 50Pesos. Not bad for a sweet deal. I also bought a bar of embotido for a hundred pesos. As usual, it’s delicious. I ate it for my dinner and breakfast for the next day.
But the best deal of all, Durian Cake! Goodness, I never ever thought that this DavaoeƱo delight can also be made into a cake. It was actually looks like a mango butter cake, just replace the mangoes with a durian preserve and voila. A deliciously made dessert! And where’s the photo os that durian cake? hahaha I forgot to take a photo of that exotic cake, because I was so indulged in finishing it. hehe
I’ll be back tehre next week!
