Bloggers as members of the Press?
Posted by on June 13, 2007
Fellow blogger and friend Ajay has already blogged about this last week. She was true in saying that 2007 is a big year for bloggers. We have already seen several bloggers jumping out of their blogs and joining the media bandwagon. But recently, more and more PR companies recognize the importance of these blogs that they are now invited in events that are once exclusive for the press and the media.
I myself has already been invited several times. Once was when I was in Iloilo City to cover the Dinagyang Festival. Most of the times, I do not attend these events, because in the first place, I’m not part of the mainstream media. I am just a blogger. But recently, I have decided to come to one of these events. Last week I attended Press Launch of the 18th Philippine Travel Mart, organized by the Philippine Travel Operators Assiciation (PHILTOA). As expected the big names were there: Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Summit Media, Business Mirror, Philippine News Agency, Manila Standard, RJTV, Click the City, and a whole lot more. Anton Diaz and I were the only bloggers invited in this event. But Lo and Behold! I was the only blogger who went to the presscon.
I’m looking forward to more press launches, and promise, I will never snob these kind of events.

“I will never snob these events.” You shouldn’t, because touching base with the outside world is one way of expanding your (traveller’s) horizon. A blogger may be working alone some of the time, but he cannot be by his enterprising self most of the time.
Yup AJ is right…. touching base is the key…. Travel Industry is booming and Travel industry needs us more than we need them…. Study says Blogs are becoming the source or basis of customers for their purchases// buttom line is… blog is more than a marketing tool// wether a post gives good or bad publicity for one topic ….. common! its still publicity….
hope that wasnt a negative comment… Im a big fan of anton… and Im sure that he didn’t do it on purpose (TO SNOB) the said event.
But it was good that you went to the gathering, maybe anton could entertain other invitations next time.
naku anton and I are friends. i’m sure he was busy thats why he wasnt able to attend the event.
naku si anton pa. i know never syang nang i indian ng presscon!
ehehe
aj and Melo> thanks sa advice. at sana madami pang darating na presscon. ehehe
grab the chance always bro.. sayang din.. hehehe
Recieving invites for this kind of things is an honor. Bloggers should not ignore these events because they can give bloggers lots of opportunities both online and offline. ^_^
Kailan kaya ako maiimbitahan?
Yeah, ako din…kailan din kaya ako ma-invite? Hehe. But I’m just a small-time blogger. Siguro kapag naging bigtime na ako hehehe.
