Capitol Theater
Posted on July 14, 2007
One of my favorite spots along the Escolta, Manila area is the Capitol Theater. It’s sleek and very elegant for its time. A lovely building, in fact!
It was built in 1935 by Philippine National Artist for Architecture Juan Nakpil. The motiff is very Filipiniana. Two lovely women dressed in Filipino garb guarding the facade of the theater. Most probably, this place could have been the I-must-be-at-that-place of the olden times.
But unfortunately, this theater has already been closed, but the building still stands. (Thank God!) But until when, we do not know. I just hope that this building would be restored to its former glory so that the we who were can still feel and experience the greatness of this masterpiece.
