The Golden Mosque
Posted on July 22, 2007
It was originally built in in 1976 upon the orders of then Philippine First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos for the scheduled State Visit of Libyan President, Muammar Khadafy. Unfortunately, the vist did not pushed through. But the construction of Metro Manila’s biggest mosque continued.
The place is called Golden Mosque of Masjid Al-Dahab, suposedly because of the golden coler of its dome. On its wall are interesting Islamic Art mosaic made of small pieces of colored tiles. This Islamic place of worship is located at the end of Globo de Oro Street, in the district of Quiapo. Just a few meters away from the Catholic’s Basilica Minore del Cristo Nazareno. Quiapo is also known to have the largest concentration of Muslim population in Metro Manila.

One can freely roam around the place. Just ask permission from the guard on duty. Photography is also allowed. As always, since this is a place of worship, proper decorum and dress code must be observed.
