Who are we going to blame?

Posted on July 31, 2007

I bet you have also observed this:

Cigarette butts on the white sandy beaches of Boracay. Soda cans on the beaches of Puerto Galera. Bottle caps in Baywalk. Spray paint on the plaque of the Tobacco Monopoly Monument in Laoag. Vandals on the Cagsawa Ruins in Daraga, Albay.

But who are we really going to blame on this? The locals or the tourist? In times like this, the blaming game is always on the run. It’s like a boxer being cornered by an opponent but still trying to make ways to get off the jabs.

I have been to several cities and mre often than not, it is really quite distressing to see lovely and scenic spots being bastardized. Is it our lack of national pride that leads to this desecration? I don’t know. Or is it just our lack of discipline that leads to this tragedy?

It’s really a sad fact. In ten years time, our beaches would never look the same as it is today. I just hope that we as Filipino citizens should do our share in maintaining these beautiful places that we have. We don’t need to do heroic deeds like giving out a million pesos for maintaining a site. We don’t need to be like Superman or Batman. After all we are just humans. In our own little way, I know, that we can help protect our beaches, sites, and various tourists spots. If only all of us would throw our thrash in the garbage bins instead of just leaving it anywhere, that would definitely be a big help. If only we report to the authorities people who are vandalizing important sites and shrines, then these fools can be prosecuted and put behind bars.

But can we ALL do it? Or, are we all WILLING to do it?

What can I say? Filipinos don’t like clean walls. Haha. But, yeah, it’s sad. Blame those who go to Boracay and leave all their trash behind.

Filipinos doesn’t have a deep sense of history that’s why wala lang sa atin kung mababoy yung mga importanteng lugar na mga yan.

I hate to see cigarette buts in the powdery sands of Boracay… OA man pero pinupulot ko yung mga basura…. heheheh… I wish magkaron ng social and environmental awareness ang mga pinoy..

Why do we like to blame? Is it going to fix it? The more appropriate question is what are we going to do about it? We should stop this blame culture.

No else to blame except those who do it despite knowing that it’s bad. You should not do anything that you don’t want to be done inside your home.

People like to blame other people but they themselves do not see that they are also doing it subconsciously. We are quick to see the dirt on others but oblivious to the dirt on ours.
