Ongpin: Manila’s Chinatown

When one mentions the name Ongpin Street, an inexplainable feeling of joy immediately sinks in to me. During the olden times Ongpin was formerly called Sacristia Street. This is because the doors of the sacristy of the Binondo Church is located on this street. In the novel Noli Me Tangere, Don Crisostomo Ibarra has been treading this street on several occasions.

Manila Post Office

The post office, located along Lawton in Manila was built in 1926 by Juan de Guzman Arellano. The building which stands at the Liwasang Bonifacio space is a classic example of the Neo-Classical architecture. It uses columns very typical for this kind of design.

Capitol Theater

One of my favorite spots along the Escolta, Manila area is the Capitol Theater. It’s sleek and very elegant for its time. A lovely building, in fact!
