Revisiting Fort Santiago
Posted on November 2, 2007
I have been to the Intramuros countless times. But I must say, rarely do I get inside the Fort Santiago are. It was many many months ago since I sat foot in this northern portion of Manila’s Walled City.
Fort Santiago plays a very important role in the Philippines’ history. It was in this little enclave where our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was incarcerated. It was in one of its dark rooms where Rizal wrote his final literary piece, the Mi Ultimo Adios or My Last Farewell.
Inside the Jose Rizal house, once can find valuable pieces owned by Rizal himself. There was his vest and shorts during his younger years. There was also a set of coat he used during his European trip. And probably the most precious of all relics inside the Fort Santiago. A bone that was directly hit by the bullet during Rizal’s execution is kept inside the Rizal house.

So if you haven’t been to this place yet, or many moons have already passed since your last visit. Why not schedule a tour of this place again? A minimal amount of PHP50 pesos (Just a little over a dollar!) is worth all the information you will learn from this tour.

Hello LJ,
From Baclaran, the fastest way you can go to the Fort Santiago via public transport is via LRT. take the LRT at the Baclaran Station then alight at the Central Station.
