Posted on November 29, 2007
Get ready. Be prepared to feel the loud thunderous drumbeats as Iloilo City, Philippines’ biggest event is set to unfold again.
And as a kick off, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation headed by its Executive Director, Mr. Ben Jimena will launch the Dinagyang Festival 2008 right in the country’s biggest shopping and entertainment center: the Mall of Asia. The event will be on December 9th.
Tribu Atub-atub, which recently represented the Dinagyang Festival at the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly in Bacolod City, will be here in Metro Manila to perform their number during the program.
Tribu Atu-atub is one of the top tribes in the Iloilo Dinagyang Festivals. The group is a perennial winner in the Barangay Category of the ati-ati contest. It is the same tribe which made the Dinagyang Festival the Grand Champion in the Aliwan Fiesta in 2004.
The Iloilo Dinagyang Festival is held in Iloilo city, Philippines every fourth Sunday of January. The festival is held in honor of the Santo Niño. The festival is characterized by the loud beating of the drums and the endless thumping of the feet of the warriors or dancers painted in black.
