Last November 16, 2007 I went back to Bacolod City to witness the Grand Parade of Festivals during the 2nd Western Visayas Tourism Assembly. This year’s edition of the WVTA, 12 festivals participated in the streetdance parade. Each and every festival showcased the unique culture of the town or city that they represent.
San Carlos City’s Pasalamat Festival
The Festivals that performed during the festivities at the City of Smiles are the Pahinis Festival of Laua-an, Antique; Pandayan Festival of Badiangan, Iloilo; Sinadya sa Halaran Festival of Roxas City, Capiz; Pasalamat Festival of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental; Minulan Festival of Talisay City, Negros Occiental; Sinulog sa Kabankalan Festival of Kabankalan City; Babaylan Festival of Bago City; Pintaflores Festival of San Carlos City; Samba Paraw of Paraw Regatta Festival, Iloilo City; Bariw Festival of Nabas, Aklan; Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City; Manggahan Festival of Guimaras Province; and Masskara Festival of Bacolod City.
Bacolod City’s highly-acclaimed Masskara Festival
Bacolod’s world-famous Masskara Festival got the Best in Choreography and Best in Performance awards. The Best in Music accolade was given to Iloilo City’s Dinagyang Festival. San Carlos City’s Pintaflores Festival won the Best in Concept and Best in Costume trophies. Meanwhile MassKara Queen 2007 Rosario Ann Sales was proclaimed Miss Western Visayas Tourism Queen.
