Morong for the second time around
Posted on December 8, 2007
For the second time around, I visited one of the country’s most beautiful chuch: The church of San Geronimo (Saint Jerome) in the quiet town of Morong, Rizal.
The first time I visited the Morong church was sometime in May 2007 when my friends and I did a Laguna Loop tour. For many of my friends the Laguna Loop Tour was unique and one of a kind. For one, no beach or shopping mall was included in our itinerary. What we had on our list were churches (lots of them!), cemetery, and an extraordinary lunch experience featuring some exotic animals served on our table.
Anyway, I was kind of surprised to see the church of Morong being used as setting for a TV drama. Yup, some scenes in the new GMA 7 TV series Kamandag is being shot here. Oh well, at least now, the Filipinos are made aware that chuches as grand as these can actually be found right here in our soil.
What really stikes me about this church is its very intricate details. Unlike the other structures of Baroque architecture, the Church of Morong is slender unlike the massive ones in Paoay and Maig-ao. And its bells are located on its top and not on its sides.
