Razon’s Halo Halo
Posted on December 26, 2007
Its may sound weird, but I have purposedly included Razon’s in our itinerary during our recent Pampanga trip. Razon’s originally hailed in the town of Guagua, Pampanga Philippines.
For the uninitiated, Razon’s is a chain of local foodshop offering merienda goodies every Kapampangan is really proud of. There are several foods listed in Razon’s menu, but just like in any other Razon branches, only 2 foods stand out in their menu: the Pancit Luglog and the legendary Razon’s Halo halo.
Halo halo is a Filipino merienda composed of shaved ice, milk, leche flan (creme brulee), sweetened fruits, beans, nata de coco, and usually topped with ice cream. A typical halo halo doesn’t just taste sweet, it is actually an eye candy with all the colors from its ingredients, with red green brown and yellow.
On the other hand, Razon’s Halo-halo is almost devoid of any color but white. It has lesser ingredients compered to the usual frozen delight. The Kapampangan dessert only contains finely shaved ice, sweetened bananas, leche flan, and another sweetened fruit which I just can’t identify, milk, and that’s it!
Although it contains lesser ingredients, it doesn’t mean that the Razon’s Halo-halo is inferior in quality and taste. On the contrary, Razon’s can easily beat any halo-halo in town.
