Sanson Montinola Antillian House
Posted on February 6, 2008
A visit to Iloilo City will never be complete without touring its grand mansions. Sitting just a few meters away from the Nelly Garden is the Sanson Montinola Antillian House. Or simply known as the Antillian House. So called because many people belive that the architectural design is patterned after the houses in Antilles.
Fernando Zobel y Montojo has even poetically described the Sanson Montinola Antillian House as “the most beautiful example of Antillan architecture.â€
The house is reminiscent of the Gaston House in Silay, Negros Occidental. The similarities can be explained by the fact that most of the rich families of Iloilo, at one point, all transferred to Bacolod, instigated largely by the spirit of unionism that had workers clamoring for reforms.
