Byahilo at the final day of the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

Posted on February 10, 2008

After the very disappointing Day 3 of the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, I decided to stay for another night in Pampanga Philippines hoping that the balloons would finally fly on the last day of the event. I know I am not the only one who got disappoined yesterday.

So at 5 in the morning today, I braved the chilly condition in Clark and got into the venue very early crossing my fingers that my one hundred peso-would not be wasted anymore. There was still the gusty wind, but not as strong as yesterday’s. So I really have no idea if the wind is already at an acceptable level for flying.

Then at around 6, the host announced: “Good morning, jumping from the aircraft are our skyjumpers carrying with them a 20-kilogram Philippine Flag. Ladies and Gentlemen, the national anthem of the Philippines.” Just a few minutes after singing the Lupang Hinirang, one by one, the balloons started t get inflated.

Oh! I was so ecstatic to see them starting to taker its shape. Lots of colors! Ther’s Blue yellow green white red and orange everywhere!

Then the first balloon started to lift of. Yahoo! This is it! This is the moment that I have ben waiting for! 21 balloons were all inflated. There are the usual pear-shaped balloon, there’s also a tiger and an octopus shaped balloons. I even spotted the hot air balloon with a Winnie the Pooh print coming from Sweden.

Out of the 21 balloons, only 18 were actually able to fly. The three had difficulty in inflating hot air and lifting off from the ground.

After the balloons lifted off, the members of the press were then asked to leave the are where the balloons stood. And now that the balloons are gone, its time for the skysjumpers, and paragliders to take centerstage.

It is actually a whole day affair. But I just left the venue after the balloons flew. All in all, I am very satified with my Hot Air Balloon trip. This is my second time here at the PIHABF but I still get the giddy feeling when I see the balloons fly.

I was there with my family too. We were disappointed that the hot air balloons weren’t able to fly last Sat. We stayed overnight and we were very happy that the following day, the wind conditions changed. We enjoyed the breathtaking flight of the hot air balloons.
