The evolution of Transportation: Ivatan Style
Posted on February 20, 2008
When we were sent to the breathtaking Batanes, we sent on a mission to create a photo essay at the end of our three days two nights tour. With all the picturesque views all over me. The rugged terrains, the windswept hills, the grazing cows and the running carabaos all left me out of words. If Batanes is a painting, it could have been the painter’s masterpiece.
So out we go, far and wide, from hills to the plains to the lighthouse and to the coastline. We all explored the very best of the Philippines’ northernmost province. And last night just before the deadlilne, I submitted my entry entitled “The evolution of transportation: Ivatan style.” In the photo you will see the photos of various types of transportation being used by the Ivatan people. From the Faluwa, the traditinal motorized boat used in corssing the islands to the bicycle and to the ever reliable jeepneys. I didn’t win, as expected knowing how crappy my photos are. But I still feel good after sharing my photos. A big big thank you to the people behind EPSON Philippines for this once in a lifetime journey, and to Geiser Maclang for including me in your list.
Dios mamajes!!!

Nice series… I wonder why you didn’t win.
But I guess you got already a reward with this free trip !
congrats… batanes is really breathtaking… c u in our next trip
wow i want to go to batanes too! more photos please
It was nice meeting you. To say that Batanes is panoramic is simply an understatement with all the rolling green hills and the seemingly endless expanse of the ocean (that looked calm from our points of view from every the mountain top we’ve ambled onto, akala mo mabait).

These pictures brings me back home like nothing has these past few years. The jeepney most of all. I’ve never been to this region of the Philippines, but that jeepney is familiar sight.
Huy! your photos aren’t crappy. And yeah, mas importante enjoy ka sa pagkuha. Another memorable and fun photo safari there. Until the next one…
Hmmnnn… the cow reminds me of my birthplace - Ilocos Sur. I have lots of childhood memories there. Aah I am beginning to miss the Ilocandia. Nice photos! I wonder why you did not win. Until next try though. Anyway, the trip is already rewarding I suupose.
