BYAHILO’s Visita Iglesia for the Holy Week Season: Malate Church
Posted on March 19, 2008
The sixth church I visited for my Visita Iglesia Series is the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios or more popularly known as the Malate Church.
The Malate Church, which stands just a few meters away from the Rajah Sulayman Fountain, was built during the 16th century by the Agustinian friars and is considered as one of the oldest churches built outside the walls of Intramuros. The church was built using the popular architectural design during its time: Baroque. However, unlike the usual Baroque churches that we get to see still standing today, Malate Church has no belfry standing on either of its side.
The Church in Malate is dedicated to the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios (Our Lady of Remedies), the patroness of women in childbirth.
WHY I PICKED THIS CHURCH:
There is only one reason why I included Malate Church in my list. It has been one of the first subjects when I practised taking photographs using my first ever SLR Camera back in 2005.

Hey Eric, where are you headed on Friday? Balak namin ni Ryan mag punta sa Manila
This is the 4th Church I visited during The Visita Iglesia last Holy Week after Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Baclaran, Our Lady of Sorrows in Mabini St. Pasay (which is under renovation) and Our Lady of the Assumption in Leveriza St., Malate (infront of Manila Zoo). After the Malate Church, we then proceeded to Nuestra Señora de Guia in Ermita, San Agustin Church and Manila Cathedral in Intramuros where we attended the a Mass of the Lord’s Suffer and Washing of the Feet presided by His Emminence Gaudencio Cardinal B. Rosales.
Malate Churches is where most of my Holly Week was spent. This is also my favorite among churches in Manila next to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on Manaoag, Pangasinan. The Feast of Our Lady of Remedies falls every 3rd Sunday of November.
Such lovely pictures of such historic churches within Manila. Twas professionaly shot!
