Byahilo’s Paco Park Experience part 2

Last weekend, Nina and I roamed around the circular Paco Park in Manila Philippines. History would tell us that the Paco Park was once a cemetery for the Manila’s elite. But probably not many know that four of the country’s most prolific citizens were once buried here.
On the top of the list is the Philippines’ National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal. When Rizal was executed on December 30, 1896 in Bagumbayan, his body was secretly buried in Paco Park. The exact spot where his body was interred is now placed with a cross, and a plaque. A few years later, Rizal’s remains were then moved to its present location in Luneta Park or more popularly known as the Rizal Park.
At the other end of the park, another memorial was also installed. This time it’s the three martyr priests of the Philippines, Fathers Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora. These three martyrs were executed on February 17, 1872 in Bagumbayan on charges of subversion arising from the 1872 Cavite Mutiny.
The spot where the three were buried has a cross and a plaque dedicated to their heroic deeds.
The Paco Park is a favourite venue for wedding because of its garden setting theme. Entrance fee to the park is five Pesos.

I pass by this place every week and was under the impression that shady characters lurk here, thus not safe. The place looks clean and taken care of. Will have to visit this place. Thanks!
