Byahilo’s Weekend Escapade in Bacolod and Guimaras

Posted by on April 28, 2008

I just came back from my Bacolod and Guimaras Adventure. Since the day I bought my ticket, I was all giddy and excited for this trip. My partner in crime, BoohBooh is also looking forward to this trip too!

Bacolod and Guimaras

The trip is supposed to be my first attendance to the Panaad sa Negros Festival since 2003. The Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod is also celebrating her 10 year anniversary. It was built in 1998 by Philippine President Fidel V.Ramos for the Centennial Palarong Pambansa.

Aside from Bacolod, my other destination is the mango-producing province of Guimaras. It was my first time to set foot in this part of the world since 2005. And that was way before the MV Solar 1 Oil Spill incident happened in Guimaras.

BoohBooh and I arrived around 6:30AM in Bacolod. The weather was gloomy. Dark clouds hover over the skies of the entire Negros Occidental province. Despite the darkness, I was still optimistic that the lord of the skies will shine brightly.

Just to give you an idea of what BoohBooh and I did, we stayed in Sylvia Manor Hotel. The room we had is great. Comfortable beds for the tired backpacker souls. The shower is great. I love it. Just the right amount of water pressure that you feel like your just getting a massage.

We had lunch on one of the Chinese restaurants in Bacolod, followed by our dessert session in probably one of the Philippines’ best cake house: Calea.

We then strolled to the streets of Silay City. Known as the Paris of Negros. Silay boasts of more than 30 heritage houses artistically built, and perfectly preserved for future generation.

Our Guimaras trip itinerary includes a visit to the Guisi Light House and ruins. Very lovely place, I must say. The place is just so lovely. I got so speechless upon seeing the grand lofty tower. There is also a breathtaking view of the Guimaras beach from the Guisi Lighthouse.

We stayed for a night at the Baras Beach Resort. To say that the view from our room is beautiful is an understatement. I just cannot totally explain how wonderful Guimaras is. It was like a painting in a museum where I am the museum visitor looking through it.

The trip itinerary looked so fabulously awesome. But there were hitches too. Some hits and misses that made the trip more exciting. Watch out for the details of my trip in the next few days.
