Aliwan Fiesta 2008 streetdance competition sneak preview

The Aliwan Fiesta 2008 has officially started! Yesterday, the organizer Manila Broadcasting Company has a variety program and a dance contest participated by the various schools from Metro Manila. I also had the chance to check out the floats that were being made yesterday at the Quirino Grandstand ground near the Rizal Park in Manila.

Pintaflores Contingent Dancer

Earlier today, I found myself shooting at the Aliw Theater as early as 5:30AM! The early morning TV program of GMA Network Unang Hirit aired live segments of the show from the Aliw Theater featuring seven of the more than twenty festivals slated tom compete at the Aliwan Fiesta 2008 Grand Streetdance Parade tomorrow at 4PM.

Peñafrancia Festival Contingent

The parade will start from Quirino Grandstand and will traverse through Roxas Boulevard until it Reaches the Aliw Theater beside the Star City and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Bakhawan Festival Contingent

The list of festivals competing for this year’s Aliwan Festival 2008 Parade are the following:

2. Pangisdaan Festival of Navotas
3. Panagbenga of Baguio City
4. Lang-ay Festival from Bontoc, Mountain Province
5. Pamulinawen Festival of Laoag City

7. Desposorio Festival from Hagonoy, Bulacan
8. Boling-Boling – Catanauan, Quezon
9. Peñafrancia Voyadores and Pilgrims Festival – Naga City
10. Pintaflores of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental
11. Saad Festival of Leganes, Iloilo
12 Dinagyang from Iloilo City

Shariff Kabunsuan Festival

13. Halad Festival of Midsayap North Cotabato
14. Sinulog Festival of Cebu City
15. Sinulog sa Carmen – Carmen, Cebu
16. Alikaraw Festival of Hilongos Leyte
17 Buyogan Festival – Abuyog Leyte
18 Bakhawan – Zamboanga Sibugay
19. Shariff Kabunsuan Festival – Cotabato City

Buyogan Festival

The grand prize winner of the grand streetdance competition will be bringing home a whooping One Million Pesos. Aside from the very colourful and vibrant festivals, there will also be a float competition where the grand prize winner will bring home half million pesos. The third segment of the Aliwan Fiesta is the Reyna ng Aliwan 2008. It is a beauty pageant of all the festival queens where the declared winner will get away two hundred fifty thousand pesos.
