sana may mag lagay ng mga vedeos sa youtube epecialy buyugan ,alikaraw ,lumad and carmen. i love them so much. so please put up videos such called tribes, its not just for my self but for evry one who wants to see the amazing dance of each tribe. hope aliwan organizers will provide such videos to be see’n in youtube.the advantage of putting videos in youtube will make our country more visitable by other countrysmen. then people in the world will come in our country in the next aliwan to watch the tribes, that dances spectaculous.

  13. Foxed on May 3rd, 2008 10:28 pm

Alot of groups copied Lumad Basakanon this year, not totally copied but visible though. This is not good for Lumad as their “uniqueness” is diluted. The judges may not know which among them is the original.

  14. jenli on May 3rd, 2008 10:33 pm

    alikaraw and buyugan gogogogogo!!!!!

  62. proud ilonggo on May 4th, 2008 2:12 am

    just for the record

grand slam - any sweeping success or total victory

it means you have to win all the categories in one event, not just a single category. in aliwan meaning, the reyna ng aliwan, the aliwan float competition and the dance parade. so winning three consecutive years doesn’t make you a grand slam winner.

JUST TO KEEP THE RECORDS STRAIGHT

  63. jc on May 4th, 2008 2:12 am

    Congratulations To all Iloilo Contingents!

    STREET DANCE CATEGORY:
1st Runner Up Street Dance Competition (1st runner up for 3 consecutive years, not bad at all!)
    Tribu Paghidaet,Dinagyang Festival

    Runner Up Street Dance Competition:
    Leganes Iloilo,Saad Festival

    FLOAT CATEGORY: Runner Up

REYNA NG ALIWAN: Best in Talent

    Next Stop For Dinagyang:
Santiago City, Isabela for Pattaradday Festival on May 5, 2008.
Makati City for Araw ng Makati celebration on May 9, 2008
New York City in June 1, 2008

    Viva! Señor Santo Niño!

  64. proud ilonggo on May 4th, 2008 2:16 am

    i agree with you, jc.

    congratulations to TRIBU PAGHIDAET

    good job, guys.

  65. bougart on May 4th, 2008 3:52 am

cebu’s contingent of aliwn fiestival 2008 makes all cebuano’s proud of our own sinulog festival.

congratulations for lumad basakanon and carmen cebu contingents.

truely you guys are making all cebuano’s proud in a place away from home

  66. redzeitgeist on May 4th, 2008 6:10 am

winner na naman ang cebu! ano ba yan. bat laging kulelat ang iba dyan. step up the plate ya’ll, especially luzon folks. i think we need to share the fame..cause i havent heard anybody from luzon or mindanao get somewhere near the top spot….apan ana jud na, antos lang sad mo gamay, kay hilabihan gyud tingali ming mga cebuano kapinangga sa senyor. viva pit senyor, alang kini kanato. whooohooo!

  67. master piece on May 4th, 2008 8:24 am

JUST TO KEEP THE RECORDS STRAIGHT–I think this is not case in here. Like the “reyna ng aliwan” is from Carmen and she is representing Carmen not Cebu City or Basakanon. FYI the term grandslam is what we called in sports 3peat champion very common in basketball or any other major sport. Peace to all specially to our brother visayan “ilonggos”. This is a Proud moment for Cebu, Congrats Lumad and Carmen!

  68. Yokimashu on May 4th, 2008 9:10 am

Kumusta po ang performance ng PINTAFLORES festival of san carlos city?

  69. arianne on May 4th, 2008 9:11 am

May it be from carmen or cebu city, knowing the fact that she is a cebuano makes us proud for her. We cebuanos are united and we support one another. LUMAD BASAKANON is a GRANDSLAM CHAMPION winnng for 3 consecutive years, and the first hall of famer for aliwan festival. Im also proud for all the VISAYAN CONTINGENTS, 6 out of the TOP 10 came from visayas region. We are surely proud of the visayan’s diverse culture and unequalled talents.

    MABUHI ANG TANANG BISAYA!
    VIVA VISAYAS!

  70. master piece on May 4th, 2008 10:34 am

it means you have to win all the categories in one event, not just a single category. in aliwan meaning, the reyna ng aliwan, the aliwan float competition and the dance parade.

Hello there my friend arianne, i’m just reacting in one of the posts here. I mean Lumad as the champion was not represented in all categories but instead Cebu. Peace to all, Mabuhi ang Lumad kag Carmen, :)

  71. proud ilonggo on May 4th, 2008 1:24 pm

hey, guys. check out cebu’s performance at you tube. doesn’t matter if you type in aliwan 2007 or 2008. it’s the same sinulog performance anyway, same dance routine and music. in fairness to them they changed costumes naman.

  72. mahalai on May 4th, 2008 1:31 pm

    @proud ilonggo…

hahahaha. i strongly agree. again. another expected dance routine for lumad basakanon. from start to finish… ONE WORD: PREDICTABLE.

parang UP-UST cheerdance rivalry lang sa UAAP ah.

UP - DINAGYANG (INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY REMAINS ITS LETHAL WEAPON)
UST - SINULOG (no comment. one word… PREDICTABLE.)

  73. jc on May 4th, 2008 1:43 pm

Hi guys, the Aliwan is over, all participants are unique in their own way, lets be happy for what we have received.

Dinagyang is the most consistent player in Aliwan’s History. There is always next year and there are more things to look forward too aside from Aliwan.

  74. di.R on May 4th, 2008 2:18 pm

  76. mike on May 4th, 2008 7:24 pm

my tita in new york is so excited for dinagyang festival to perform this coming celebration of philippines independence..=)

  77. arianne on May 5th, 2008 12:06 am

The Aliwan Festival 2008 Street dance competition Criteria for judging are: Choreography 30%, Performance 30%, Timing and Rhythm 30%, and Costume 10%. (excerpts from BYAHILO.COM)

This is the criteria for judging, it clearly shows that there is no AUDIENCE IMPACT in the criteria. I hope aliwan organizers will give a “CROWD-FAVORITE AWARD” OR maybe through TEXT VOTES or ONLINE VOTING, para rin naman hindi na crowd ang pagbabasehan! CROWD is not a part of the dance its merely and added excitement.

  78. arianne on May 5th, 2008 8:06 am

The decision is fixed and final that even THE SENATE, CONGRESS OR PRESIDENT cant change it. So i guess you have to wait another year again! (”,) as they say “there’s always next year”. Aliwan indeed showcases FILIPINO culture, because here in PHILIPPINES no one lose, they think they r cheated! Well im so sad to say that you guys aren’t the judges, maybe next time you should try to apply for the position. but it’s CEBU’S YEAR now, try your luck next time!

    VIVA PIT SENYOR
    VIVA STO NINO!

    PADAYON CEBU!

  79. mahalai on May 5th, 2008 11:53 am

    @arianne

at least hindi na mismo nanggagaling sa kampo ng DINAGYANG na SILA DAPAT MANALO. THE PEOPLE HAVE DECIDED AND THEY FAVOR DINAGYANG OVER LUMAD.. THE JUDGES CAN BE PAID. DONT EVER FORGET THJAT POSSIBLITY.

    ENOUGH SAID.

THE POINT IS, DINAGYANG IS THE WINNER IN HEARTS OF THE MAJORITY!

  80. mahalai on May 5th, 2008 11:54 am

*IN THE HEARTS OF THE MAJORITY

  81. arianne on May 5th, 2008 12:26 pm

but in the hearty of the 6 JUDGES, CEBU is the winner! Who are we to JUDGE, when we are not entitled to JUDGE.. jUST RESPECT the judges decision coz its fixed and final. The Title “FIRST ALIWAN GRANDSLAM CHAMPION” is already written in the history.. Just move on and wait for another year!

The organizer of ALIWAN is MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY (MBC), an independent non-govenment organization based in MANILA. They will surely not put their companies credibility just for ALIWAN. FILIPINOS are really like that, 4 them they never lose they r just cheated.. hahaha Such a prehispanic attitude of CRAB MENTALITY, i hope that perception would be removed!

Tribu Lumad Basakanon IS TOO PREDICTABLE this year…

    too predictable TO WIN.

see folks if i where a judge, and i see dinagyang’s performance, i’d prolly say “wow that’s really awesome” but then again, i won’t imagine myself right in the middle of them cause the steps are too complex and are just nerve racking splits and jumps. it’s good as entertainment but it’s like seeing someone eat fire or walk barefoot on broken shards, but not something you wanna do yourself. as for lumad basakanon’s performance, i would say it brings out an inner child to just wanna dance with them, plus the rhythm is more apt in setting a merry mood unlike dinagyang’s fierce beats. as for downplaying lumad’s performance as ‘more of the same’ you know it doesn’t really matter, when they actually imbued the spirit of an ultimate festival.

Audience impact is a big factor in any competitions(dance,pageant,etc.). because the show is for the audiences as form of entertainment, the judges are only the 3rd party for fair & honest competition.

The criteria is the guidelines for the competitor & the judges only to know what the rules.

Most of the decisions by the judges came from the audiences satisfaction.

    Arrianne,
MBC is not an independent/NGO, they are the profitable capitalist who organized Aliwan to promotes their product.

Aliwan is not prestigious, not sanctioned by DOT, it was only organized to sell their product.

CCP is only co-sponsor(who violated the law by sponsoring a private event using public fund)

The awards & prizes is only a consolation(palubag-loob) para maraming sasali sa Aliwan.

Even Mayor Lim of Manila disagree of holding the Aliwan because it was organized by a private company that the main purpose is to sell their product and has no beneficial to the public.

  85. arianne on May 5th, 2008 3:47 pm

Joining ALIWAN i voluntary no one force contringents to join. The fact that ILO-ILO join means that they r vying for championship just like any other contingents. so you mean ALIWAN is just prestigous when ILO-ILO WINS? come on!

  86. dinagan on May 5th, 2008 4:03 pm

hay naku, wala namang ginawa ang dinagyang kundi tumakbo rito’t tumakbo roon, 3 beses nang nananalo ang cebu at 3 years na rin kayong nagsasabing biased at ano pang magic ang ginagawa, kaya kayo hindi manalo nalo versus sinulog eh. puro lang kasi ngatngat ng ngatngat, eh bakit pa kayo sumasali kung ganun? kung 3 taon na kayong talo at 3 taon na rin kayong nagrereklamong dinaya? look at cebu’s carmen, first time sumali at nag land na kaagad sa 3rd. you people here sounds like insecured losers. and this website… what do we expect? this is made by an ever loyal ilonggo thats somewhat biased din, look at his comments? its not cebu’s year daw dahil obviously he’s rooting for dinagayang, nung nanalo ang sinulog “oh im not satisfied with the results, simpleng advise ko kay byahilo

inday sister, kung hindi mo naman maiwasang maging biased eh i dedicate mo na lang itong medicore blog mo sa dinagyang!

  87. len on May 5th, 2008 4:16 pm

dinagan..you are too much..eric dee is just telling the truth..=)

  88. m2 on May 5th, 2008 4:38 pm

Dinagyang joins Aliwan because of its commitment to MBC in 2002 to support Aliwan in exchange of promotions & sponsorship to Dinagyang.

Aliwan started in 2003 and dinagyang is the first official entry.

Events organized by a private company is only for advertising purposes. Offering huge prizes is to encourages other group to join.

The prestigious competitions is not offering prize money.

I organized big event for my company, di gagastos ang isang kompanya ng milyon na walang benefits o return sa company kaya nawawala ang pagka-prestigious ng isang event dahil ang habol ng kompanya ay kumita.

  89. Enma on May 5th, 2008 4:39 pm

Ang dahilan kung bakit natalo ang Dinagyang ay kasi masyado kayong mayabang.

  90. mahalai on May 5th, 2008 8:11 pm

i wonder how irrelevant the topics are getting father and farther away.

    the bottom line…

THE JUDGES HAD LOST THEIR CREDIBILITY. tsk tsk tsk. i pity those who are blinded by THIS 6 PEOPLE. even if one of them or two of them (judges) are actually my favorites… douglas nierras and liza macuja-elizalde… tsk tsk tsk

how sad. and how pathetic that millions are blinded by these… tsk tsk tsk.

  91. redzeitgeist on May 6th, 2008 1:43 am

mahalai: “THE JUDGES HAD LOST THEIR CREDIBILITY.”

…and then suddenly dinagyang wins 3 consecutive championships in the coming aliwan festivals. and the judge is very very credible. whooot, double speak alert!

ingna lang gyud pildi-lagot mo. faet ninyo oi.

  92. mhel on May 6th, 2008 10:21 am

WATCH NA LANG KAYO DINAGYANG 2009
    MALAPIT NA!

JANUARY 23-25, 2009 ILOILO CITY, PHILIPPINES

  93. Sinjin on May 6th, 2008 10:02 pm

Thanks, Eric, for delivering the latest events as they happen.

  94. mahalai on May 13th, 2008 2:58 pm

    redzeitgeist:

it only implies that the judges in the past years had lost their credibility. kung mananalo man ang dinagyang in the next 3 years because of CREDIBLE JUDGES AS YOU WOULD SAY, then, i can conlude that by then, WE WON FAIRLY AND SQUARELY.

what’s double speak alert? hahaha. my gad. have you taken logic? your rebuttal is too stupid. tsk tsk tsk.

    AGAIN, THE STATEMENT:

THE JUDGES “HAD” LOST THEIR CREDIBILITY. naka highlight ba ang HAD para malaman mo na PAST TENSE NA YAN.

  95. ed on May 14th, 2008 9:44 pm

THIS IS MY HUMBLE SUGGESTION!!calling Sir ben jimena of dinagyang!in as much as there is controversial decision on the winner of aliwan for 3years in a row,it is better for dinagyang to skip participating in that event.unless the organizers and the judges came up with a clear cut criteria on judging!!our beloved festival of dinagyang do not deserve to be treated this way!the issue here already goes beyond promotion and the prize but on the sensebilities of the ilonggos!!this is already a blatant display of arrogance, deceit, manipulation and corruption in our cultural presentation.

  96. mhel on May 15th, 2008 4:12 pm

    ed,
kung ara ka sa iloilo kindly ask or lobby the ILOILO CITY COUNCIL to make a resolution to stop sending dinagyang to Aliwan, kay kon IDFI lang ang saligan waay gid na sila pulos.

Accdg. to Mr. jimena maentra man sila gihapon sa Aliwan 2009.

  97. ed on May 15th, 2008 7:46 pm

ha ha ha!!Thanks Mhel!Bt I dont think I can do that.why?is IDFI that desperate enough looking for promotion and funds?but, thanks anyway.

  98. arianne on May 27th, 2008 12:38 pm

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH ED & MHEL:

ILOILO SHOULD NO LONGER COMPETE IN ALIWAN COZ I THINK THE WHOLE CITY IS SO CONCENTRATED IN DINAGYANG & ALIWAN THAT IT SEEMS THAT THEY DONT KNOW MORE. ILOILO CITY SHOULD FOUCS ON INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, BUISNESS DEVELOPMENT, IT INDUSTRY ETC.. SO THAT ILO-ILO WILL PROGRESS. I HOPE MR. JIMINEA & OTHER OFFICIALS WILL NOT BE OBSESSED IN DINAGYANG WHOLE YEAR ROUND. I MEAN THERES STILL SO MUCH TO DO IN ORDER FOR ILOILO TO PROGRESS, PROMOTING DINAGYANG DOESN’T JUST HELP IT.I HAVE ALSO HEARD THROUGH A NEWS THAT MOST OF THE CITY’S BUDGET ARE SPENT IN COSTUMES AND TRIPS AROUND THE COUNTRY & ABROAD. YOUR CITY IS SPENDING MILLIONS OF PESOS THAT YOU TAXPAYERS ARE PAYING FOR. YEAH DINAGYANG IS NICE, BUT IT IS NOT WHAT REALLY ILONGGO NEEDS, IT IS NOT A PRIORITY FOR ME. WHYDINT YOU FOCUS ON BUISNESS OR TOURISM PERHAPS.

    JUST AN EXAMPLE:

    * CEBU FOCUS ON IT INNOVATION MORE THAN 35 CALL CENTERS ARE NOW HERE IN CEBU GIVING A HUNDRED THOUSAND JOB TO THE CITY.

    * INFRASTRUCTURES ARE IMPROVING INFACT THE SOUTH AND NORTH RECLAMATION PROPERTIES ARE OPEN AND NOW READY FOR BUISNESS. INFACT FTV AND BIGFOOT FROM HOLLYWOOD IS CURRENTLY CONSTRUCTUING STUDIOS IN THERE MORE BUILDINGS ARE ON THE RISE TOO. ON 2010 THE SUBWAY TRAIN AROUND NRP AND SRP WILL BE FULLY OPERATIONAL, GIVING A LOT OF CONVENIENCE TO THE RIDING PUBLIC. CEBU’S SUBWAY TRAINS WILL BE THE FIRST IN THE COUNTRY.

    * TOURISM IN CEBU IS BOOMING, IN FACT CEBU IS THE NUMBER 1 TOURIST DESTINATION IN THE COUNTRY. FROM JAN - MARCH CEBU HAPPENS TO ACQUIRE MORE THAN A 1 MILLION FOREIGN TOURIST AND THE NUMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO DOUBLE FROM JUNE-JULY WHERE MOST WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE ON VACATION.CEBU ALSO HAS MORE THAN 6 MILLION DOMESTIC TOURIST EVERY YEAR USUALLY COMING FROM MINDANAO AND OTHER PARTS OF VISAYAS. A VISBLE PROOF OF CEBU’S BOOMING TOURISM IS THE RISE OF 5 STAR INTERNATIONAL HOTELS IN THE CITY’S METROPOLIS. SOME EXAMPLES ARE PARKLANE HOTEL, HILTON RESORT AND SPA, SHARI-LA HOTEL, MARRIOT HOTEL, WATERFRONT HOTEL (LAHUG), WATERFRONT HOTEL (AIRPORT), PLANTATION BAY RESORT AND SPA AND MANY MORE..

THERE ARE MANY MORE THINGS TO DO IN ONE YEAR, DON’T BE TOO PREOCCUPIED BY A FESTIVAL. JUST GO WORK AND MOVE ON!

  99. ed on June 15th, 2008 4:24 pm

ARRIANNE@..WE HAVE OUR OWN DEVELOPMENTS HERE IN ILOILO THAT CANNOT BE COMPARED WITH CEBU!!ILOILO IS SURELY MOVING TOWARDS BECOMING THE NEXT BIG THING!!THE 8 BILLION AIRPORT OF INTERNATIONAL STANDARD AND THE ENTRY OF MEGAWORLD WILL PAVE THE WAY TO THAT REALIZATION.TO COUNT ALSO THE SCENIC BEAUTY OF GUIMARAS, TRULY THIS ADDED ATTRACTION WILL CATCH THE ATTENTION OF FOREIGN CAPITALISTS TO VENTURE IN OUR TOURISM INDUSTRY.FURTHERMORE OUR HUMAN RESOURCES AS ONE OF OUR ASSETS IS A RESULT OF OUR EXCELLENT EDUCATION HERE, AND IS GIVING US THE EDGE WHICH IS AT PAR WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARD!!IN THE NEAR FUTURE ILOILO WILL BE THE NEXT DESTINATION!!HALA BIRA ILOILO!!PADULONG SA PAG BAG-O!!VIVA SENOR STO. NINO!!

  100. halad fest on September 21st, 2008 8:11 pm
