BYAHILO’s ultimate dining experience at the Kanin Club, Paseo de Santa Rosa
Posted on May 26, 2008
It was a gastronomic feast I swear, I shouldn’t miss. The final pit stop for the Secrets of the South Tour by Verdana Homes Mamplasan has led us to Paseo de Santa Rosa for our dinner at the Kanin Club.
So much good things have been written about this hidden food secret. If fact, Nina and I have been planning to go to this place.
And as the name implies, every meal in Kanin Club Paseo de Santa Rosa Laguna is not complete without ummm…kanin or rice.
And the owners made sure only the best foods were served. From its appetizer, green mangoes to its dishes like seafood kare-kare, sinigang na tadyang ng baka, crispy dinuguan, cripy pork ears, chicken curry. Ohh.. and the rice! We had Aligue rice, which is actually white rice mixed with aligue or crab fats. It’s sinfully delicious. Smells good too!. But I have to keep myself away from this if not for the cholesterol and the calories! Haha I love their mixed rice variant. Its rice, with thinly sliced sausages, bits and pieces of meat and a whole lot more.
What I love most in Kanin Club restaurant is their Sinigang na tadyang ng baka. Its beef slowly cooked in sour broth. It meat is just so tender. The sourness is just perfect. And the vegetables are not overcooked which is sometimes typical of sinigang in some restaurants.
Their crispy dinuguan is a must-try too. Instead of using pork offal, I suspect, Kanin Club is using the crispy fried pork ears as their main ingredient, thus you get to feel the crunch after the bite.
For dessert we were treated to turon ala mode. Turon is a typical Filipino merienda made of plantain wrapped in a thin lumpia wrapper deep fried in sugar until the caramel sticks to the wrapper.
But the turon of Kanin Club has a twist. Instead of just the plain and lonely plantain, they added ube preserve (purple yam), macapuno strips and some beans. Turon is served is a scoop of Ube-flavored ice cream.
And just to make sure that everyone’s gone home happy and full… errrr very full, the owners even gave each one of us packs of Kanin Club turon as pasalubong! Yey!
Our satisfying dinner at Kanin Club in Pase de Santa Rosa is prt of the Secrets of the South Media Tour by Verdana Homes Mamplasan organized by Geiser Maclang. Thanks!

why o why. i am on a diet plan. this post made me hungry.
We used to love this place but about 1 year ago, while having a b-day dinner with family, our rice order had an extra unsavory ingredient, IPIS! Needless to say, our appetites were lost and we have vowed never to eat here again. The response from the resto staff was less than stellar as they seemed not to care at all that such a creature was found in their main dish.
So eaters beware, check to make sure your Kanin club orders have no “special” sahogs!
