Iloilo Aduana Customs House: A grand testimony to Iloilo’s glorious past
Posted by on June 3, 2008
Visitors travelling between Bacolod and Iloilo will surely not miss this imposing structure. I can compare her to a young refined lady watching over the ships docked at the port of Iloilo.
The Aduana or the Iloilo Customs House is one of the old structures in Iloilo that has witnessed its grand and glorious past. It stands just a few meters away from the Iloilo port that serves the Iloilo-Bacolod route through catamarans or fast craft.
Iloilo was once considered as a major player in the shipping industry. Many products from other areas of the Philippines are shipped to Iloilo to be exported to other countries. Among its major export is textile. The Iloilo Aduana or the Customs House is one of the most beautifully built Customs Houses in the Philippines, and is considered as the largest Aduana outside of Manila.
Today, the Aduana still houses the office of the Bureau of Customs and the Bureau of Immigrations in Iloilo City.
