BYAHILO experiences the Simple Life in Coron Palawan
Posted on June 10, 2008
Five bloggers all set to explore the charming Coron Palawan for the first time. Yep, It’s the first time for all of us to set foot in the island of Busuanga in Northern Palawan Philippines. We were so thrilled to explore the beauty of Coron!
We arrived around noon time in Busuanga Island, where the town of Coron is located. We flew via SEAIR’s Dornier aircraft which can take you to the island beach paradise for only 35 minutes.
From the Yulo King Ranch (YKR) airport its another 45 minutes jeepney ride. The road from the airport to the town of Coron is flat, but is not yet cemented. There are sections where improvements are already being done.
While we are still on the jeepney, I can already feel the quiet and the serene atmosphere of the place. Cows silently grazing at the grassland, while birds freely fly around the open space.
Upon arrival at the town of Coron, we then explored the market area. Just like in any other places, markets teem with so much activities. The women are busy selling their goods like dried fish and vegetables, while some men are out in the sea to catch their fresh produce.
Right in front of the Coron public Market is the jeepney and bus terminal for transportations plying the route Coron-Busuanga.
Life in Coron is very simple and laid back. Much even simpler than the life I got so used to when I was still living in Bacolod. Coron is a small time. It seems that everybody knows everybody. Tricycle is the primary mode of transport in the town, though jeepneys and buses are available for trips outside Coron.
There are no shopping malls. Most of the eateries are carinderia-style. And the people’s favourite pastime is karaoke. Life is so simple in Coron. The place so squeaky clean. The locals are very warm and friendly. We even met the town mayor while he was playing basketball, and warmly welcomed us in Coron Palawan.
