Coron, Palawan: The Simple Life part two

Posted on June 12, 2008

I am supposed to write about the 110th year of the Philippine Independence Day today, but the writer’s block has struck me. It’s already past 9PM and I have yet to post an article for today.

Anyway, I greet my fellow Filipinos a happy and fruitful celebration of Independence day today! Anyway, I am still wishing that when I open my windows every morning, I would sea nothing but mountains and the seas and the boats passing by. Darn, I’m already back in Manila but my mind is still fixed on Coron Palawan!

Palawan has so much to offer. One can chose to just bask in its crystal clear beaches, or experience the adrenaline rush by climbing the Mt. Tapyas or climb one of its majestic but equally dangerous limestone cliffs, or just simply appreciate how the locals live a very simple life.

There are no five star hotels in Coron Palawan. There are only a handful top-of-the-line restaurants offering international cuisine. There’s no taxi, just tricycles and jeepneys. Life is so laid back in Coron. There are no high rise buildings and modern developments on the island of Busuanga Palawan, which is good.

Palawan still retains that old rustic nature feel. Cows and carabaos are just free to roam. Wild birds flying free. Fishes sold at the public market is incredibly fresh..

People seem to have so much time in their hand. Not like us here living in the Metro where we always wish to extend the day up to 25 hours. They still have time for rest and recreation. Time for siesta. Time to mingle with townmates.

If only life here in the Metro is this simple…
